Specimen Requirements: Streptococcus pneumonia isolates:
• From CSF
• Resistant to any clinically relevant antibiotic
• Suspect treatment failure
• Suspect vaccine failure
Specimen Handling & Transport: Isolates may be stored and transported at ambient temperatures
Collection Kit/Container: Isolate on chocolate agar or blood agar
Collection Instructions:
Unacceptable Conditions: Mixed cultures may significantly lengthen turnaround time.
