|
Required Information: | Laboratory regulations require the following minimum information to be provided on the requisition form for a specimen to be accepted for testing: Patient name or unique identifier; date and time of collection, patient date of birth and sex, specimen type/site of collection, test request(s), clinician name and UPIN, and address for reporting results. Please be certain that name/identifier on the form matches that on the specimen label. |
Results Include: | Streptococcus pneumonia serotype information |
Limitations: | Cultures must be viable for identification. It may not always be possible to discriminate between multiple serotypes within a serogroup due to a high degree of genetic similarities or due to the existence of DNA polymorphisms among single serotypes. Therefore, a serogroup will be assigned for isolates where a serotype cannot be identified. Isolates that are not able to be serotyped will be sent to CDC for further identification. |
