| Recommended Uses: | To follow the efficacy of treatment on positive cases, treated patients should have a quantitative nontreponemal test performed on serum drawn at 3 month intervals, for at least one year. With adequate treatment for primary and secondary syphilis, there should be at least a fourfold decline in titer by the sixth to eighth month. Patients treated in the latent or late stages may show a more gradual decline in titer. Patients with previous treated infection, but has risk factors for reinfection. |

| Required Information: | Laboratory regulations require the following minimum information to be provided on the requisition form for a specimen to be accepted for testing: Patient name or unique identifier; date and time of collection, patient date of birth and sex, specimen type/site of collection, test request(s), clinician name and UPIN, and address for reporting results. Please be certain that name/identifier on the form matches that on the specimen label. |
| Results Include: | Reactive, Non-Reactive or Weakly Reactive plus titer for previous specimen and current specimen. |
| Limitations: | Titers below the limit of detection cannot demonstrate a fourfold or eightfold drop in titer. |
