Turn-around Time: 1-4 days
Recommended Uses: Detection of antibody to Hepatitis C virus in serum.
Contraindications: Not intended for use in screening blood or plasma donors.

Patient Preparations: Routine blood draw.
Specimen Requirements: 3 ml of serum (1 ml minimum) or 7-10 ml vacutainer, no additives.
Specimen Handling & Transport: Specimens must be stored refrigerated (2-8C) and transported with frozen cool packs. Specimens must be tested within 7 days of collection unless specimens are removed from clot, red blood cells, or separator gel and stored frozen at -20C or colder.

Collection Instructions: Routine blood draw.
Unacceptable Conditions: Specimens that have been heat-inactivated, pooled, grossly hemolyzed, or have obvious microbial contamination. Specimens stored for more than 7 days not frozen at -20 degrees C. Cadaveric specimens or body fluids other than human serum are unacceptable.
Requisition Form: CDD Requisition Form B
Required Information: Laboratory regulations require the following minimum information to be provided on the requisition form for a specimen to be accepted for testing: Patient name or unique identifier; date and time of collection, patient date of birth and sex, specimen type/site of collection, test request(s), clinician name and UPIN, and address for reporting results. Please be certain that name/identifier on the form matches that on the specimen label.
Results Include: Non-reactive, reactive, or equivocal
Limitations: Assay does not distinguish between past, chronic or recent exposure to HCV. Does not distinguish between detection of IgG and IgM antibodies. Cadaveric specimens or body fluids other than human serum are unacceptable.
Additional Tests Recommended: Hepatitis C virus TMA is recommended for antibody positive patients to assess for current infection. Refer to test SS00089P for automatic reflex TMA.
