Recommended Uses: The Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene and the Centers for Disease Control offer testing for special or unusual pathogens of public health interest. Please contact our laboratory at (800) 862-1013 for instructions regarding submission of these special specimens. Requires WI Division of Public Health approval.

Patient Preparations:
Specimen Requirements: Serum 2-5 ml. CSF >=1 ml. CSF only tested when submitted alongside a patient-matched serum specimen.
Specimen Handling & Transport: Specimens must be stored and transported to the lab at 2-8 degrees C (refrigerated/with ice packs), and should be received within 48 hours of collection. Frozen specimen should be shipped on dry ice.

Collection Instructions: Specimens should be collected in the acute phase of illness (>=4 days and <=12 weeks after onset of symptoms).

Required Information: ** Illness Onset date required for symptomatic individuals. ** Laboratory regulations require the following minimum information to be provided on the requisition form for a specimen to be accepted for testing: Patient name or unique identifier; date and time of collection, patient date of birth and sex, specimen type/site of collection, test request(s), clinician name and UPIN, and address for reporting results. Please be certain that name/identifier on the form matches that on the specimen label.
