Recommended Uses: Evaluation of premalignant and malignant lesions.
Contraindications: Bleeding, infection, cramping

Patient Preparations: As per hospital or clinic protocol for cone biopsy procedure.
Specimen Requirements: Cone biopsies submitted in container with 10% neutral buffered formalin
Specimen Handling & Transport: Place tightened container in a biohazard bag. Complete request form and place both into styrofoam mailer. Label mailer with clinic address and WSLH address. Place biohazard sticker on mailer. Send to WSLH via courier or shipping carrier with a tracking option strongly preferred.
Collection Kit/Container: Call 1-800-862-1088 for specific kit supplies.
Collection Instructions: Collect sample as per clinician procedure using surgical knife, laser, or LEEP. Place specimen sample into vial containing 10% neutral buffered formalin. Container must be labeled with patient's full legal name, date of collection, specimen source, and name of clinician authorized to order the test.
Unacceptable Conditions: Unlabeled specimens and improperly fixed specimens will not be evaluated.
Requisition Form: Histology
Required Information: Laboratory regulations require the following minimum information to be provided on the requisition form for a specimen to be accepted for testing: Patient name or unique identifier; date and time of collection, patient date of birth and sex, specimen type/site of collection, test request(s), clinician name and UPIN, and address for reporting results. Please be certain that name/identifier on the form matches that on the specimen label.
Results Include: Benign Cervical Mucosa Without Evidence of Malignancy, Low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 1, CIN1, mild dysplasia), High grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 2, CIN2, moderate dysplasia), High grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (HSIL, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 3, CIN3, carcinoma in situ or severe dysplasia), Endocervical Adenocarcinoma In Situ, and Positive for Malignancy. Results may also include inflammatory, bacterial and viral findings, or other histological diagnoses in accord with Rosai and Ackerman's Surgical Pathology, 11th Edition.
Limitations: As with any laboratory test, both false negative and false positive results may occur. Findings must be correlated with history and other test results.
