Recommended Uses: Detection of relative loss of the long arm of chromosome 19. Aids in diagnosis of glial neoplasia including astrocytoma and oligodendroglioma.

Patient Preparations:
Specimen Requirements: Paraffin embedded tissue: Five 4-micron sections on immunohistochemistry slides, the middle section stained with H&E.
Specimen Handling & Transport: Store and transport specimens at room temperature.
Collection Kit/Container:
Collection Instructions: FFP7248 hours.
Unacceptable Conditions: FFPE tissue specimen must not be de-calcified.
Requisition Form: Cytogenetics Lab Neoplasia Diagnosis Form #132
Required Information: Laboratory regulations require the following minimum information to be provided on the requisition form for a specimen to be accepted for testing: Patient name or unique identifier; date and time of collection, patient date of birth and sex, specimen type/site of collection, test request(s), reason for referral, clinician name and UPIN/NPI, and address for reporting results. Please be certain that name/identifier on the form matches that on the specimen label.
Results Include: Ratio of 19q13 to 19p13 signals. Deletion 19q detected/not detected

Additional Tests Recommended: Test 886F5 for detection of deletion of 1p.

Methodology: Fluorescence in situ hybridization performed on interphase nuclei from paraffin embedded tissue using DNA probes (LSI 19q13/LSI 19p13; Abbott Molecular) covering the region including the CRX, GLTSCR2 and GLTSCR1 genes in 19q13 and probes covering the region including the MAN2B1, ZNF443 and ZNF44 genes in 19p13 as an internal control
Includes: FISH analysis of 200 cells for copy number of chromosome 19q compared to copy number of chromosome 19p
