Specimen Requirements: Parotid gland/buccal Dacron or Polyester swab in Viral Transport Medium
Specimen Handling & Transport: Store specimens refrigerated (2-8 degrees C) and transport with cool pack. Send immediately and within 10 days of collection.

Unacceptable Conditions: Cotton swabs, specimens collected >10 days from receipt
Requisition Form: CDD Requisition Form A
Required Information: Laboratory regulations require the following minimum information to be provided on the requisition form for a specimen to be accepted for testing: Patient name or unique identifier; date and time of collection, patient date of birth and sex, specimen type/site of collection, test request(s), clinician name and UPIN, and address for reporting results. Please be certain that name/identifier on the form matches that on the specimen label.
Results Include: Mumps virus RNA detected/not detected, Equivocal, Indeterminate
Limitations: A negative result does not rule out infection with mumps virus.
Additional Tests Recommended: Mumps IgM and IgG Antibody (SS02130)
Additional Comments: Please notify your local health department when submitting specimens for mumps testing.
