Recommended Uses: (1). Detection of Shiga toxin-producing bacteria in stool specimens from cases of community-acquired diarrhea and cases with suspected or confirmed hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). (2). Confirmation of Shiga toxin EIAs or other Shiga toxin test methods.

Patient Preparations:
Specimen Requirements: Stool specimens in Cary Blair transport media or bacterial isolates in pure culture enrichment broth (e.g. GN or MacConkey broth).
Specimen Handling & Transport: Store stools at 2-8 degrees Celsius and transport with cool pack. After incubation, store enrichment broths at 2-8 degrees Celsius C and transport with cool pack.
Collection Kit/Container: Stool Culture (Enteric Pathogen Culture)
Collection Instructions: Collect stool specimens according to instructions in Kit #10. Refer to instructions used at your facility for proper inoculation and handling of enrichment broths.
Unacceptable Conditions: Unpreserved stool specimen
Requisition Form: CDD Requisition Form A
Required Information: Laboratory regulations require the following minimum information to be provided on the requisition form for a specimen to be accepted for testing: Patient name or unique identifier; date and time of collection, patient date of birth and sex, specimen type/site of collection, test request(s), clinician name and UPIN, and address for reporting results. Please be certain that name/identifier on the form matches that on the specimen label.
