PCR should be selected in only a few distinct situations: neonates whose mothers are HIV antibody positive or considered to be at high risk for HIV infection; patients with HIV Ag/Ab Combo positive and with negative or indeterminate Geenius results for HIV; patients suspected of acute HIV infection prior to seroconversion.
Contraindications: Testing will not be performed as a screening test.
Additional Tests Performed:
Patient Preparations: Routine blood draw
Specimen Requirements: One 7 ml EDTA (lavender top) vacutainer of whole blood for adults. Greater than or equal to 400 ul EDTA (lavender top) vacutainer of whole blood for pediatrics. Store refrigerated at 2-8 C. Patient specimen must be received within 5 days of collection.
Specimen Handling & Transport: Patient specimen must be received within 5 days of collection.
Collection Kit/Container: HIV-1 Proviral DNA PCR (Kit 22P)
