Specimen Requirements: Swab of genital ulcer, chancre, or aspirate in bacterial Culturette or equivalent.
Specimen Handling & Transport: -20C or colder; frozen specimens should be shipped on dry ice

Commercial transport medium suitable for Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (UVM)

Unacceptable Conditions: Specimens in transit > 24 hours

Required Information: Laboratory regulations require the following minimum information to be provided on the requisition form for a specimen to be accepted for testing: Patient name or unique identifier; date and time of collection, patient date of birth and sex, specimen type/site of collection, test request(s), clinician name and UPIN, and address for reporting results. Please be certain that name/identifier on the form matches that on the specimen label.

As of February 2019, the WSLH Communicable Disease Division has discontinued performing culture for Haemophilus ducreyi (test code MP00610).

Any requests for H. ducreyi culture will be sent out to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for genital ulcer disease testing (Syphilis, Chancroid, Herpes). If you choose to have us forward the specimen to the CDC for testing, you will be charged a $74.00 handling and shipping fee.
