You are required to use either this kit or its equivalent when shipping rabies specimens to the WSLH. The kit was designed for safe and efficient shipment of suspect rabies specimens in accordance with specifications developed by the United Parcel Service. The kit is large enough to accept small animals up to the size of a large dog's head. |
Collection Instructions: | Put the specimen in the inner plastic bag and secure with twist closure. Place the bagged specimen and frozen refrigerant pack into the styrene foam case. Place the lid on the case and gather the top of the outer plastic bag and secure with twist closure. Place the completed test request form (rabies #286) on top of the outer plastic bag. Fold the flaps of the carton so that the WSLH address label is displayed on top and securely tape the carton shut. Federal Regulations: Federal regulations state, in essence, that each package used for shipping hazardous materials should be so designed and constructed, and its contents so limited that under conditions normally incident to transportation there will be no significant release of hazardous materials to the environment.
