Specimen Requirements: | 3 ml of serum (1 ml minimum) or 7-10 ml vacutainer, no additives |
Collection Instructions: | Routine blood draw Note: Within 6 hours of draw, blood collection tubes MUST be centrifuged per the manufacturer's recommendation. If manufacturer's recommendations are unavailable use 2500 X rpm for 10 minutes at room temperature. After centrifugation, transfer serum to a sterile polypropylene tube. |

Required Information: | Laboratory regulations require the following minimum information to be provided on the requisition form for a specimen to be accepted for testing: Patient name or unique identifier, date and time of collection, patient date of birth and sex, specimen type/site of collection, test request(s), clinician name and UPIN, and address for reporting results. Please be certain that name/identifier on the form matches that on the specimen label. |
Rejection Criteria: | Specimens that have been heat-inactivated, pooled, grossly hemolyzed, or have obvious microbial contamination. Specimens stored for more than 7 days not frozen at -20°C. Cadaveric specimens or body fluids other than human serum are unacceptable. Uncentrifuged specimens |
Specimen Handling: | Specimens must be stored refrigerated (2-8°C) and transported with frozen cold packs. Freeze specimen if testing will not be performed within 5 days of collection and ship on dry ice. Frozen specimens can be tested up to 6 weeks after collection. Ship frozen specimens on dry ice. |
