Recommended Uses: | This test aids in the diagnosis of acute dengue virus infection in patients presenting with clinical signs and symptoms. Symptoms include 2-7 days of fever, often accompanied by headache, retro-orbital eye pain, joint pain, muscle and/or bone pain, rash, and mild bleeding manifestations. Patient should also have recent travel history to a tropical area or to an area with DENV-competent vectors and/or has previously experienced dengue infection. A blood sample taken during the first 7 days of symptoms is required. |

Contraindications: | Lack of febrile illness or signs/symptoms of dengue infection. Lack of travel history to an endemic area or an area with DENV-competent vectors. Specimen collected more than 7 days after onset of symptoms. |

Required Information: | Laboratory regulations require the following minimum information to be provided on the requisition form for a specimen to be accepted for testing: Patient name or unique identifier; date and time of collection, patient date of birth and sex, specimen type/site of collection, test request(s), clinician name and UPIN, and address for reporting results. Please be certain that name/identifier on the form matches that on the specimen label. |
Rejection Criteria: | Specimen collected in container other than red-top or serum separator tube. Specimen stored or shipped at ambient temperatures. Serum hemolysis. Samples received more than 90 days after the onset of symptoms. |
Specimen Handling: | Ship serum specimens overnight to the WSLH. Ship frozen specimens on dry ice. |
